Procter & Gamble Co.: The Cincinnati consumer products manufacturer said second-quarter net income surged 40% to $490 million, while revenue rose 14% to $6.86 billion. On a comparable basis, net earnings were up 13% after excluding from the year-ago quarter the onetime, $83-million cost of a manufacturing consolidation reserve and a gain on the sale of the worldwide Crush soft-drink business.
