Independent Polish News Show Canceled

A group of 25 young television journalists in Warsaw, Poland, protested Tuesday that their news program had been canceled because it often criticized the government and President Lech Walesa.
The independent program “Obserwator” (“The Observer”), which was produced mainly by younger, less experienced journalists, took up issues that have been ignored by the regular evening news show on state-run television.
Marek Markiewicz, deputy chairman of Polish television, said that the cancellation was for “structural reasons,” adding that there was a shortage of funds to run two separate television news programs.
