Finding a rewarding job close to home, or a home close to your office, can be tricky in Southern California, where the average commute time inches toward a half-hour or more. It can be done, though. The map shows seven cities in which industry--be it manufacturing and distribution or aerospace and high technology--is thriving and the quality of life is relatively high. All figures are for 1990.
