Cal State Fullerton defeated previously unbeaten Texas A & M, 6-3, in a softball game Sunday at the Texas A & M Aggie Invitational in Brenham, Tex.
Fullerton (14-4) also defeated Penn State, 1-0, in 10 innings Sunday in the tournament, giving the Titans four victories in five tournament games. Because Saturday’s rain shortened the tournament, its format was abandoned and no champion was declared.
Tiffany Boyd (8-1) went the distance in the Titans’ victory over Texas A & M (11-1). Ann Van Dortrecht, who pitched five scoreless innings against Penn State, picked up her sixth victory without a loss.
In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. baseball:
Chapman 8-5, UC Riverside 4-3--Trailing 2-0 in the second game, the Panthers scored a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth in sweeping the doubleheader at Riverside. Cliff Anderson’s double drove in the final two runs of the sixth. Jamie Cass (1-2) allowed five hits and won the seven-inning game for Chapman (6-11, 3-2 in the CCAA).
In nonconference baseball:
Jacksonville 16, Cal State Fullerton 5--Host Jacksonville (6-6) used a six-run third inning and a six-run sixth to gain the victory.
