The Hartford Whalers traded center Ron Francis, defenseman Ulf Samuelson and defenseman Grant Jennings to the Pittsburgh Penguins for center John Cullen, defenseman Zarley Zalapski and right wing Jeff Parker.
Francis is the Whalers’ all-time leader in games, goals and assists. Cullen, who like Francis is playing out his option, is fifth in the league in scoring with 31 goals and 63 assists.
