Sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a man Friday in Bellflower after he pointed a weapon at them that turned out to be a pellet gun, authorities said.
The man confronted deputies outside his room at the Dutch Inn Motel on Artesia Boulevard around 3:20 p.m., Capt John Anderson said. The man pointed the weapon at the deputies and asked to be shot, he said.
When the man failed to drop the weapon after being ordered to do so several times, three deputies fired numerous shots, hitting him in the upper torso, Anderson said. The man died at the scene. His name was not released, pending notification of next of kin.
