Software Firms to Merge: Sierra On-Line and Broderbund Software said they agreed to merge through an exchange of stock. Sierra, based in Coarsegold, Calif., is a leading maker of entertainment software, including the “King’s Quest” and “Space Quest” series. Broderbund, based in San Rafael, Calif., is a leading publisher of educational and productivity products, such as “The Print Shop” and the “Carmen Sandiego” series. The deal reflects a growing trend of software industry mergers.
