Parretti Wins a Libel Judgment: MGM-Pathe Communications Co. Co-Chairman Giancarlo Parretti was awarded one franc in damages, plus more than 10,000 francs in legal expenses and other payments, in his libel suit against French National Assembly member Francois D’Aubert. A French court ruled March 6 that D’Aubert had exceeded his parliamentary exemption against libel judgments when he made defamatory statements about Parretti on the radio and in a French newspaper last year. D’Aubert in November asked the assembly to investigate Parretti’s dealings with Credit Lyonnais Bank Nederland, a unit of a French government-owned bank. The assembly rejected the resolution, and D’Aubert has submitted a new request that the bank be subjected to the control of a special commission.
