New Regulations Adopted for Homeless Shelters

Los Angeles County supervisors on Thursday adopted new regulations for setting up homeless shelters, but deleted a provision that advocates said would have involved unnecessary delays.
The board deleted a requirement that an applicant wishing to set up a shelter of 30 beds or less in unincorporated county areas must go through a lengthy permit process, Ruth Schwartz, executive director of Shelter Partnership Inc., said after the hearing. Supervisor Mike Antonovich said deleting the permit requirement would make such projects much less expensive and much quicker to complete.
