COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : McConathy’s Walk Gives Cypress Baseball Title

Doug McConathy scored the winning run on a bases-loaded walk to give Cypress an 8-7 victory over Merced in the championship game of the Allan Hancock baseball tournament Saturday in Santa Maria.
Matt Wilson walked with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to score McConathy and give Cypress (18-9) the victory.
McConathy walked to open the inning, Francisco Vega followed with a single and Kevin Cook was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After Merced changed pitchers, Wilson walked on four pitches.
Sean Drinkwater had four hits, stole three bases and had two RBIs for Cypress. Teammates Tom Puppe and Cook hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning. McConathy and Drinkwater were named co-most valuable players of the tournament.
In the College of Sequoias championship:
Orange Coast 15, Bakersfield 2 (7 innings, mercy rule)--Corey Parker had three hits and five RBIs and Dan Redington had four hits and scored four times for OCC (19-10).
