Arreola, Jones Spark San Diego Past Sweetwater
Despite losing eight starters off last year’s 2-A Section runner-up team, San Diego High won its ninth game in its last 11, topping host Sweetwater Saturday, 7-4.
Chino Arreola went two for four with a three-run homer and three RBIs and sophomore Jacque Jones went two for four with a double and three RBIs for San Diego (9-1-1). Sweetwater fell to 3-4-1.
Other nonleague games:
St. Augustine 11, Hoover 7--Sophomore Javier Pamus hit three doubles and drove in two runs for St. Augustine (5-3). Marco Inzunza was two for two with three RBIs for Saints. For Hoover (1-6), Tony Banks went three for three and drove in two runs.
USDHS 8-6, Rancho Bernardo 2-1--USDHS’s Gavin Millay went three for three with five RBIs, including a two-run triple, in the first game. Jeff Moore went three for four with an RBI in the second game. USDHS (5-4) was aided by seven Rancho Bernardo (3-6) errors.
Crawford 5, Kearny 4--Keith Klayman’s single drove in Carl Marino with no outs in the bottom of the seventh to win it for Crawford (2-6). Sean Palmer and Eddie Feistel had three hits each for Kearny (2-5-1).
Helix 7, Lincoln 6--Junior Ryan Smith had nine strikeouts and allowed only two hits and one earned run to pick up his second victory for Helix (6-3). Helix had only two hits, but it capitalized on six Lincoln errors.
Torrey Pines 1-11, Point Loma 5-2--Point Loma took advantage of six Torrey Pines errors in the first game. Josh Serrano pitched four innings to pick up the victory for Point Loma (5-5). Chris Lang pitched a three-hitter for Torrey Pines in the second game.
