Notre Dame 6, Alemany 5--Vinnie Orlando capped a wild seventh inning by lining a one-out single to center with the bases loaded--his fourth hit of the game--to lead Notre Dame (11-3, 3-1) in a Mission League game at home.
With the score tied, 5-5, Notre Dame’s Glen Carson led off the seventh with a double. Edgar Maldonado (3-0), the winning pitcher in relief, drew a walk. One out later, a walk to Jason McConaghy loaded the bases to set the stage for Orlando, who singled over the center fielder’s head.
Martinez, the Notre Dame left fielder, threw out an Alemany baserunner at the plate for the final out in the top of the seventh.
Thousand Oaks 6, Royal 2--Adam West threw a three-hitter and Brian Sturges, Jeff Naster and David Skeels each had two hits to help host Thousand Oaks in a Marmonte League game.
West, a senior left-hander who threw a no-hitter against Camarillo on Friday, allowed Royal (10-2, 2-2) one earned run and has given up only 12 hits in 31 1/3 innings.
Skeels hit his third homer of the season, a two-run shot, in the first inning. Thousand Oaks (11-4, 4-1) has won nine in a row.
Camarillo 6, Newbury Park 5--Danny Haas struck out five in a complete-game win for visiting Camarillo (8-5, 1-3) in a Marmonte League game.
Westlake 15, Agoura 3--Todd Preston drove in three runs, two coming on a second-inning double during a nine-run second inning, for host Westlake (6-8, 2-3) in a Marmonte League game.
St. Francis 12, St. Genevieve 1--Right-handers Paul Gomez and David Cass combined on a five-hitter in a San Fernando League opener at St. Genevieve.
Fillmore 9, St. Bonaventure 2--Pokey Sanchez and Jose Luis Lomeli each had two hits for Fillmore (7-1-1) in a nonleague game.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Glendale d. Downey, 15-8, 15-3, 15-7--Jason Parkin had 13 kills and Paul Severns had 10 for Glendale (7-2) in a nonleague match.
