Baldwin Park : 3% Utility Tax Delayed
The City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to delay a 3% utility tax on the city’s commercial and industrial users.
The utility tax had been proposed by a citizens’ finance committee. City Manager Donald Penman told the council that the tax would raise at least $450,000 annually.
But Councilman Martin Gallegos said such a tax would unfairly burden small businesses. He suggested a series of meetings with the Chamber of Commerce to work out a more equitable plan.
Penman said the utility tax idea can be considered again next month.
