School Textbooks

Regarding the story, “Minorities Oppose New School Texts” (April 10), what a shame that ideologues such as San Diego school board President Shirley Weber can try and maybe succeed in keeping students from much needed social studies textbooks.
To label these books as “Eurocentric” is ludicrous and makes about as much sense as similarly characterizing texts on, say, plane geometry.
Attempting to solve societal problems through a modern version of book burning and rewriting history to be “politically correct” may be OK at San Diego State University’s African Studies Department, but has no place in the city’s elementary and middle schools.
