The battleship Missouri--aboard which occurred the Japanese surrender that ended World War II--will be open for its last public tours Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Long Beach Naval Station.
Dubbed the Mighty Mo, the ship that saw service in World War II, Korea and the Persian Gulf War will be decommissioned in March and mothballed at a Navy facility in Bremerton, Wash. More than 15,000 people are expected to visit the ship this weekend, according to Navy officials.
The Missouri is moored at Pier 6. Visitors may reach it through the main gate or Gate 2 from Seaside Avenue/Ocean Boulevard on Terminal Island. Gates open at 9 a.m.
