SPIKE LEE

Critics--particularly white critics--who critique the consistent flaws in Spike Lee’s films are invariably dismissed by Lee as racists or out of touch with black America.
Conversely, critics--particularly white critics--who revere him without applying their traditionally harsh stand ards are surely either scratching a liberal itch or pandering to a minority filmmaker who needs a leg up.
Just how hard is it to be considered an “important” artist when your work is never held up to real scrutiny?
