Stokes Scores 13, U.S. Remains Undefeated

Ed Stokes, a former St. Bernard High standout center who now plays for the University of Arizona, scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the U.S. remained undefeated in the World Junior Men’s Basketball Championships with a 94-78 victory over Brazil Thursday at Edmonton, Canada.
The U.S. held a 54-38 advantage at halftime. Brazil closed to within nine points with four minutes remaining, but could get no closer. The U.S. (6-0) made 32 of 54 shots from the field (59.2%) and out-rebounded Brazil, 46-31.
Brian Caver of Seton Hall led the U.S. with 17 points and Arizona State’s Jamal Faulkner added 16. The U.S. faces defending champion Yugoslavia (4-2) in a semifinal game Saturday.
