Robert Gamez, 23, a third-year pro from Las Vegas, ignored a bug on his nose to sink a 30-foot shot from a trap for an eagle en route to an opening-round record 61 and a two-stroke lead in the Greater Milwaukee Open.
Gamez, playing the nines in reverse order, was four under par after 11 holes, then birdied the next three and went nine-under with an eagle three on the 524-yard sixth hole at Tuckaway Country Club. He also birdied the next two holes and parred the last to break the Milwaukee opening-round mark set by Tommy Nakajima in 1987 and tie the course record set by Ken Green in the third round of the 1988 tournament.
