The NCAA has accepted The Citadel’s self-imposed penalties for a football recruiting violation and won’t take any action, Athletic Director Walt Nadzak says.
Nadzak said he learned of the NCAA’s decision through Southern Conference Commissioner Wright Waters. The violation occurred Aug. 25 when three assistant coaches attended a high school game. August is one of the months in which the NCAA prohibits coaches from evaluating high school prospects.
Coach Charlie Taaffe said he misinterpreted the rules when he gave permission for the assistants to attend. Nadzak said the three coaches won’t be permitted to scout high school games in October, when evaluations are permitted by the NCAA.
