Ashton-Tate Expects Job Losses: More than half of Ashton-Tate’s workers could lose their jobs in a pending takeover by Borland. Alan S. Henricks, Borland’s chief financial officer, said just 600 to 900 of Ashton-Tate’s 1,300 workers are likely to get jobs at Borland upon completion of the merger of the two software publishers. He said Borland plans an $80-million writeoff to cover severance payments, plant closing, and the costs of eliminating other duplications. The merger, announced in July, still must receive approval from the Justice Department which is reviewing whether the merger will give Borland excessive domination of the market for certain personal computer software.
