Dannemeyer and Duke: a Lot Alike

The article, “Dannemeyer--Crusader or Rabble-Rouser of the Right” (Nov. 18), brings to mind the recent campaign of David Duke for governor of Louisiana. The media portrayed Duke as a racist, bigot and demagogue. Supporters of Duke were labeled illiterate, racist, simple-minded, suggestible and naive.
Dannemeyer’s political philosophy is every bit as bigoted, irrational and demagogic as that of Duke, yet voters of the 39th Congressional District in Orange County have voted religiously for Dannemeyer for years. The only conclusion is that Dannemeyer’s supporters in Orange County have the same mentality of Louisiana voters who supported Duke.
