OUTLOOK
Last season was supposed to be a rebuilding one, but the Ladycats went on to win the Division II state championship and finish with a 33-1 record, losing only to powerhouse Christ the King High School of New York City. This season, the Ladycats have been dropped back into Division III in state and Division 3-AA in Southern Section classifications. Trakh returns four starters, including Anton (13.3 points, nine rebounds per game), who is bound for USC. Erickson, the sophomore point guard whiz (11.1 points, 4.3 assists) and Cal-Hi state freshman player of the year, also returns along with starters Bauer (eight rebounds) and Beckley. Trakh lost graduating center Jinelle Williams (now at UC Irvine) but he has high expectations for Hudson, a 6-2 sophomore who has a chance to be the best center in school history. Trakh has beefed up the Ladycats’ schedule with trips to the Santa Barbara tournament and games against four highly rated teams in their own tournament. Mark down Jan. 11, when the Ladycats play host to Peninsula, the nation’s preseason No. 1 team. Trahk expects a much tougher playoff road with Morningside in same section race.
