COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Irvine Valley Soccer Advances to State Finals

Piero Mendiola and Shawn Housmand scored as Irvine Valley defeated Glendale, 2-1, in a Southern California men’s soccer regional final Saturday at Clark Community Center in La Crescenta.
The Lasers (18-3-2) advance to the state finals, which begin Friday at El Camino College.
In the championship game of the Chaffey men’s basketball tournament:
Rancho Santiago 108, Trade Tech 86--Rick Swanwick scored a season-high 29 points and had 12 rebounds for Rancho Santiago (5-2), which won the tournament championship. Glenn Greene added 15, Ruben Oronoz 14 and earned most valuable player honors.
In nonconference men’s basketball:
Golden West 79, Barstow 72--Paig Parish had 21 points and Mark Johnson added 20 points for visiting Golden West (3-3) in the third-place game.
Orange Coast 70, San Diego Mesa 50--The Pirates limited the Olympians to 15 second-half points, overcoming a three-point halftime deficit at Orange Coast.
Jeffrey Porter had a game-high 19 points for the Pirates (2-4).
Saddleback 75, Cerritos 73--Ray Ankton hit two clutch jumpers and Josh Borella made five of his last six free throws to help Saddleback (1-4) edge visiting Cerritos.
Ankton had 21 points and Borella had 20.
In the Mt. San Jacinto women’s basketball round-robin tournament:
Cypress 88, Mt. San Jacinto 44--Jennifer Johnson had 37 points and 18 rebounds for Cypress (4-0).
In nonconference women’s basketball:
Orange Coast 67, MiraCosta 28--Stacy Giem had 15 points to lead Orange Coast (4-1) over host MiraCosta (1-6).
