OUTLOOK
It’s mix and match at Mission Viejo this season, where Taylor has a roster that includes four returning starters and nine newcomers. Among the starters back is McGlothlin, a 1990-91 second-team all-league choice who averaged 13 points and eight rebounds. “Kelly’s an excellent athlete,” Taylor said. “She needs to be consistent and work on her shot selection, but her work ethic is very good.” Also back is Gorska, who averaged 6.7 points and was an honorable mention all-league choice. “She loves to play, and she can bang inside with anybody,” Taylor said. Taylor says Mission Viejo’s shooting is much improved over last year, with Okura and Myers the top outside threats. Although the Diablos lack quickness at the guards, Taylor says Mission Viejo could be a sleeper in league play if it learns to handle pressure defense. Other league coaches agree the Diablos will be an improved team this year. The addition of Gudino and Toal in the backcourt and Stejskal, Foster and Chris on the front line should help Mission Viejo immediately.
