MISSION VIEJO : Drunk-Driver Check Scheduled Tonight
- Share via
The city’s first drunk-driving checkpoint of the holiday season will be set up tonight from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Sheriff’s deputies from four South County cities will man the checkpoint at an unidentified location in an effort to promote public awareness of the dangers of drunk driving, Sheriff’s Lt. George Johnson said.
The program will continue on Saturday evening in San Juan Capistrano.
“The purpose of this is not to arrest people,” said Johnson, commander of the sheriff’s contingent in Mission Viejo. “We want to heighten awareness out on the streets.”
On weekend and holiday evenings through New Year’s Eve, four cities in South County will send deputies to operate the checkpoints, which will rotate between undisclosed locations in Laguna Niguel, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano and Mission Viejo.
