If you can’t beat ‘em, just stand there.
The Birmingham High boys’ basketball team appeared to try exactly that tactic against host Sherman Oaks CES in Thursday’s Valley Pac-8 Conference game. But it didn’t work and Sherman Oaks CES crawled to a 26-13 victory.
Birmingham held the ball for several extended periods, including a 7-minute 54-second stretch that consumed all but six seconds of the third quarter.
Sherman Oaks CES (3-0, 2-0 in conference play) led, 10-5, after three quarters before posting 16 points. In the fourth quarter, Birmingham (0-3, 0-2) was forced to play at normal speed.
Mitch Shenkin and John Cannon each scored six points to lead Sherman Oaks CES.
