Abortion Controversy
I could not agree more with Rivers’ article on abortion. I am a college student myself, and I’m terrified of losing the right to decide what I do with my body. My boyfriend and I are both very careful about birth control, but I’m well aware that no method is infallible. The possibility that I might get pregnant haunts me.
Frankly, I don’t know if I’d be able to have an abortion or give up my baby for adoption, because I love children and have always planned on being a mother--eventually. But it’s my life and my choice. If I decide to drop my college career and have the child, OK; if I decide to give it up either in an operating room or at an adoption agency, OK. I refuse to let the course of my life be determined by a faulty condom.
It’s time women take a more vocal stand on this issue. Continued silence when it comes to legislatures governing our bodies and our choices is tantamount to giving up our rights altogether.
