Mother Teresa Moved From Intensive Care

Mother Teresa’s condition has improved sufficiently to allow her to be transferred from the intensive care unit to a private room while she continues treatment for pneumonia and congestive heart failure, the Scripps Clinic & Research Foundation said Wednesday.
The 81-year-old Catholic missionary, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her work in the slums of Calcutta, “continues to be in very good spirits” and walks around her room, Scripps spokeswoman Sue Pondrom said.
“Although her condition appears improved, physicians said it is still possible to develop a setback at any time,” Pondrom said.
Mother Teresa, who was visiting her Missionaries of Charity community in Tijuana, was hospitalized Dec. 26 for pneumonia and then underwent a procedure to open clogged coronary arteries. She is expected to be released within a week.
