Walnut : City to Put Skids on Skates
Rollerblade enthusiasts may soon be the targets of radar guns.
The City Council last week introduced a measure that places a 20 m.p.h. speed limit on enthusiasts of the increasingly popular in-line skates. The proposal would allow Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies, who police the city, to issue citations.
Violators could face $1,000 in fines and up to six months in jail.
The proposed ordinance also would restrict in-line skate use to daylight hours and require that skaters avoid pedestrians by at least three feet and skirt any store entrances by at least 20 feet.
The same restrictions already exist for skateboarders and also would include traditional roller skaters.
A final vote is scheduled for the council’s Jan. 22 meeting.
