Groups Want Longer Look at Studio Expansion Plan

Organizers of two Los Angeles homeowner associations said Monday that they want the City Council to extend the public comment period on a draft environmental impact report for the proposed 20th Century Fox studio expansion.

The report, which is more than 500 pages, was released Dec. 26. State law allows for a minimum 45-day comment period, but the residents want it extended to 120 days. The Cheviot Hills Homeowners Assn. and the California Country Club Homes Assn.--together representing 2,000 homeowners--say they need the extra time to examine the lengthy document, which covers the effects of noise and other effects of the proposed development.

The Pico Boulevard studio expansion plan involves the rezoning of 53 acres of residential property for commercial use, the groups said.
