Talk about working overtime. When Hlavac banked in a three-point shot to tie the score as time ran out in regulation of Valencia’s game Tuesday against Western, she was extending an already long day. Hlavac also plays for the Valencia soccer team and earlier had scored the Tigers’ goal in a 1-1 tie with Western. By the time Western had defeated Valencia, 75-72, in double overtime, Hlavac, who scored 19 points in the loss, had competed for more than six hours. Later in the week, she scored 11 points in a 65-44 basketball victory over Magnolia and another goal in the Tigers’ 2-0 soccer victory over Magnolia. This is the first season Hlavac, who is 5 feet 2, has played both sports. The decision was easy after receiving the qualified support of Valencia athletic officials. “They said, ‘There’s no way you are going to be able to do it,’ ” Hlavac said. “And that just made me want to do it more.”
Other top performers:
Lynly Matsumoto, who averaged 23.7 points as Kennedy won two of three Garden Grove League games.
Shilpa Shah, who scored 23 points in Fountain Valley’s upset over Huntington Beach in the Sunset League.
Katie Ward, who scored four goals in Mater Dei’s 5-1 Angelus League soccer victory over Rosary.
