Servite Leads Brea-Olinda From Wire to Wire

BREA — Matt Kenney scored 19 points, including five three-pointers, to lead Servite to a 64-49 victory over Brea-Olinda in the second round of the Southern Section Division III-AA boys’ basketball playoffs.
Kenney’s basket with 6:33 remaining gave the Friars (15-11) their biggest lead of the game at 51-33. Servite advances to Friday’s quarterfinals to meet South Torrance, a 54-52 winner over Monrovia in overtime, at a site to be determined.
Adam Anderson scored 15 points and Ryan Dodd added 14 for Servite, which led from the beginning.
The Wildcats made a run midway through the fourth quarter. Mark Chiotti’s two free throws at 1:48 cut the deficit to nine, 56-47, but the Friars responded with eight consecutive points.
Gilbert Arriola had a game-high 11 points for Brea-Olinda, which finished 13-13.
