Holy Martyrs Stymied by Pasadena Poly

A long dry spell proved costly for Holy Martyrs High in the girls’ Southern Section Division V-AA basketball championship game Friday night at Cerritos College.
The Armens failed to score during the final 6 minutes 44 seconds of the third period and the opening 3:21 of the fourth--a span of 10:05-- and Pasadena Poly took advantage and ran away to a 41-25 victory.
The combination of a tough zone defense and a tall front line combined to frustrate Holy Martyrs. Barbara Thomas, a 5-foot-9 forward, had 12 rebounds in the first half and 18 overall for Pasadena Poly (17-9). Teammate Lisl Cochran-Bond, a 5-10 forward, led all scorers with 19 points.
Holy Martyrs’ tallest player is 5-8 center Tamar Titizian.
Point guard Karineh M. Abramians led the Armens (24-3) with nine points, all coming on three-point baskets. But she also missed 13 attempts from beyond the arc.
