Mater Dei, Brea Are Set to Play for State Titles

Mater Dei, the premier boys’ basketball team in Orange County, and Brea-Olinda, the best girls’ team, play for State titles Saturday in Sacramento.
Mater Dei (34-1) plays Alameda St. Joseph at 6 p.m. in the Arco Arena. The Monarchs won the Southern California Regional Division I title with a 54-44 victory over Capistrano Valley Saturday at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.
Brea-Olinda (31-2) plays Heldsburg at 2:15 p.m. for the State Division III girls’ title.
Brea advanced by beating Rancho Alamitos, 70-51, in the regionals Saturday at the Sports Arena.
