A man brandishing a syringe that he said was filled with his own AIDS-infected blood robbed a Northridge market of a soda and $40 Monday, Los Angeles police said.
“This is the first time I’ve heard of somebody with a syringe threatening and using it as a weapon,” said Sgt. Bill Thomas.
The robbery occurred at Orchard Pride in the 18000 block of Nordhoff Boulevard about 2 p.m., Thomas said.
The man entered the store and took a soda from the freezer, Thomas said. He then approached the clerk at the cashier, “removed a syringe full of blood from his pocket, and stated, ‘I have AIDS. I don’t want to hurt anybody,’ ” Thomas said.
“He ended up taking money and the soda he was drinking.”
