Bond Declared Bankrupt: Alan Bond, the bombastic Australian businessman once hailed as a national hero, was declared bankrupt after a yearlong legal battle. The 53-year-old Bond was ordered to surrender his passport, and a court-appointed trustee said he will launch an investigation to determine Bond’s true financial position. Bond faces a trial next month on charges that he violated securities laws.
