Julia Trotman in women’s Europe dinghy, Randy Smyth and crew Keith Notary in Tornado catamarans and Morgan Reeser and crew Kevin Burnham in men’s 470s clinched berths with one race remaining in U.S. Olympic Sailing Trials on Tuesday.
Brian Ledbetter of San Diego in Finns and J.J. Isler, San Diego, and crew Pam Healy, San Francisco, in women’s 470s wrapped up spots a day earlier.
Trotman, of Syosset, N.Y., won a close race with top-ranked Courtenay Becker, Rye, N.Y., at Newport Beach to claim her spot in the new Olympic class.
Smyth, from Mary Esther, Fla., won a return to the Games after winning a silver medal with crew Jay Glaser in 1984. Glaser now crews for his wife, Pease.
Reeser, Miami, and Burnham, of Coral Gables, also won Tuesday’s race to support their No. 1 ranking on the U.S. team.
Only one boat qualifies in each class.
