Keating’s Sentence

In response to “Keating Receives 10-Year Sentence in S&L; Fraud Case,” April 11:

Charles Keating’s defense team really blew it when they didn’t put the Pope, Mother Teresa, former Texas Gov. John Connally and Loretta Young on the stand as character witnesses to plead for probation rather than a 10-year prison term for this cockroach. They wrote letters vouching for the “integrity” of Charmin’ Charlie. What in the world did Keating do to earn this kind of support and loyalty from God’s strongest bastion of moral rectitude? We’ll never know, but we can speculate.
