Readers Aren’t Willing to Pick Up the Check for Shoe on This One

It saddens me that Bill Shoemaker, one of America’s more prominent sports figures, is unable or unwilling to recognize his own shortcomings. Shoemaker needs to climb above his self-pity and accept responsibility for his actions.
Too often, today’s athletes are treated as heroes to whom the laws of society no longer apply. Shoemaker, as a public figure, has an obligation to accept responsibility for his actions rather than to place blame on the scapegoat with the deepest pockets.
