Channel Islands baseball Coach Don Cardinal, who has a career winning percentage of .660 in more than 26 seasons, said Friday he will resign at the end of the season.
Cardinal, 53, has a record of 425-218-4 and he led the Raiders to the Southern Section 2-A Division title in 1969. Channel Islands was 2-A runner-up in 1972.
“It’s time to call it quits,” said Cardinal, who informed the Raiders of his decision in an emotional speech after a 4-3 loss Wednesday to Newbury Park in a Marmonte League game.
“That was one of the toughest things I’ve had to do,” he said.
