MARIPOSA, Calif. — Firefighters Monday contained a 1,300-acre blaze that started when a tractor lawn mower blade struck a rock.
Full control was likely by 8 a.m. today, said state Department of Forestry Capt. Keith Johnson.
The fire started Saturday in the region of Lake McClure, 12 miles east of Mariposa, officials said. About 900 firefighters battled the blaze, and four helicopters were brought in Sunday.
The blaze threatened about 50 homes Saturday, forcing the evacuation of 100 people. They were allowed to return after about eight hours, Johnson said.
