COLLEGE BASEBALL DAILY PLAYOFF REPORT : CAL LUTHERAN : Hill Shakes Up Lineup
- Share via
After batting .325 on the season, Cal Lutheran has watched its team average drop to .253 in the national tournament. In an effort to shake his team from its slump, Coach Rich Hill changed the batting order Monday. Dan Smith, who had been hitting sixth, moved to the leadoff spot and leadoff batter Darrell McMillin batted fifth.
CLU responded with 13 hits and Smith started the game-winning rally with a one-out bloop single and a stolen base.
The Kingsmen will start right-hander Steve Dempsey (10-1, 2.30 earned-run average) in this afternoon’s semifinal against Methodist right-hander Brian Ford (8-5, 1.82).
If Cal Lutheran advances to the championship game tonight, left-hander Pat Norville (9-3, 1.73), is the likely starter.
