A federal grand jury in Los Angeles indicted an Oxnard man Tuesday for bank robbery in connection with the holdups of two Oxnard banks in February, the FBI announced.
Jose Daniel Ramos, 23, was in Ventura County Jail on an unrelated charge that he violated probation, a jail spokeswoman said. He will be held until his arraignment on the federal bank robbery charges, said Charlie J. Parson, who heads the FBI’s Los Angeles office.
The grand jury charged Ramos with the Feb. 12 robbery of Security Pacific Bank on North Ventura Road, and the Feb. 21 holdup of the Bank of A. Levy branch on Victoria Avenue, Parson said.
The indictment followed an investigation by the Oxnard Police Department and the FBI, Parson said.
If convicted, Ramos would face a maximum sentence of 20 years and a $5,000 fine for each count.
Also on Tuesday, a Port Hueneme bank was held up for the third time in little more than three months, Port Hueneme Police Sgt. Jerry Beck said.
The robbery occurred shortly after 3 p.m. when a man entered Household Bank on Ventura Road, approached a teller’s window and handed over a demand note, Beck said. The man escaped on foot after taking an undetermined amount of money, Beck said. No weapon was displayed, he said.
The same bank was the target of robbers on Feb. 20 and May 12.
