ELECTIONS ’92 : 2 Polls Show Bush Losing Ground

NEW YORK — Two nationwide polls, released Monday, showed further slippage of President Bush’s standing with voters. One survey showed Bush running a few percentage points behind likely independent candidate Ross Perot in a three-way race.
An ABC-Washington Post poll showed Perot holding a slight lead among registered voters--34% to Bush’s 31% and Clinton’s 29%. Among “likely voters,” however, Perot was preferred by 37%; Bush and Clinton each had 29%, ABC said.
Bush led in a CBS poll. He had the support of 35% of the registered voters surveyed; Clinton had 27% and Perot got 26%.
Each poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. The surveys were taken at slightly different times and used different questions, which could have influenced results.
