An all-Southern California matchup for the College World Series title game boosted its local television ratings 60%, while preliminary national figures were up 13.6% over a year ago, according to statistics released Monday by the A.C. Nielsen Co.
Pepperdine’s 3-2 victory over Cal State Fullerton Saturday drew a 3.2 rating on KCBS Channel 2. With each local rating point being equivalent to 48,751 households, it meant about 156,000 households were tuned in. The 1991 LSU-Wichita State final, which had to compete with a Dodger telecast, had a 2 rating.
The Titans and Waves drew better ratings than Angel games Saturday (2.4) and Sunday (3.0) on KTLA Channel 5 and Sunday’s French Open men’s final on KNBC Channel 4 (2.8).
