McDonald, Smith Sign with SDSU

Left-handers Kevin McDonald of USDHS and Ryan Smith of Helix have signed national letters of intent to pitch for San Diego State. McDonald compiled a 7-1 record and a 1.71 earned run average, and Smith went 8-3 with a 1.92 ERA, striking out 101 batters in 72 1-3 innings.
Three more Aztecs have signed professional contracts after being selected in the late rounds of last week’s baseball draft. Pitcher Jay Hasse signed with the Cubs, who picked him in the 35th round; catcher Marcelino Garcia signed with the Padres, and pitcher Walt Bills signed with the Blue Jays.
Eight members of the 1992 Aztecs have signed with pro clubs.
