President Bush’s ’92 Campaign

How wonderful to see the President , the self-proclaimed “undisputed leader of the free world,” enjoying the fruits of his “new world order” in Panama (June 12). I thought that Marlin Fitzwater put the perfect spin on the situation: “It’s been a very good visit with the exception of the tear gas and the demonstrations,” not to mention the live gunfire. Strange, but these same comments seem valid statements about our own American cities.
Mr. Bush, the American people did not elect you to be king of the world. Why don’t we put aside these small skirmishes in tiny Third World non-democratic countries and concentrate instead on real issues here at home? I propose using the military might of the U.S. for one reason only, the defense of our borders.
