FILLMORE : Summer Swim Program Returns

Fillmore’s Parks and Recreation Department will offer a recreational swimming program this summer for the first time in two years.
Beginning today, the Fillmore High School swimming pool near First Street and Central Avenue will be open for two daily swimming sessions Monday through Saturday, noon to 2 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m.
The sessions will be offered for six weeks.
There is a $2 charge for adults, ages 18 and older. Swimmers under 18 will be charged $1 a session.
A lifeguard will be on duty.
In past years, before budget belt-tightening, the city’s swimming program has included lessons.
But only recreational swimming will be offered this summer, said Bob Buckles, city recreation coordinator.
“It’s better than nothing, and we hope to do more in the future,” Buckles said.
The program will cost the city about $6,000, and is part of a cooperative effort between the school district and the city to share facilities.
Buckles said the school will cover the cost of pool chemicals, and city staff will take care of pool maintenance.
