The head of the Ojai sheriff’s substation has been promoted to commander and will be transferred to a new post in August.
Lt. Ken Kipp, a 19-year veteran of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, announced during Tuesday’s City Council meeting that he will be leaving the post he has held for the past year.
Kipp said he was happy to receive the promotion but added that he had mixed emotions about the move. “There will always be a special place in my heart for Ojai,” he said.
During his one-year tenure, Kipp started a program at Nordhoff High School aimed at discouraging drug and alcohol use by local teen-agers. The city also maintained the lowest crime rate in the county.
Department officials are expected to assign Kipp to his new post and name his replacement later this month.
