Injured stock car driver Davey Allison underwent 75 minutes of surgery at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pa., but still plans to get back into his race car long enough to start Sunday’s DieHard 500 at the Talladega super-speedway in Alabama.
A spokesman for Allison said doctors grafted bone obtained from a bone bank to his injured right forearm to help in the healing process.
The 31-year-old driver, injured in a crash during last Sunday’s NASCAR Winston Cup race at Pocono International Raceway, needs to make at least one practice lap to be eligible for the race and must start the race to earn championship points for the event.
